There are two (2) types of wills; last will and testament and living will, both are for the purpose of the individual who created it not being alive or of a sound mind respectively. They are both created to make plans in the future for the unfortunate events that will make life much easier for family and friends as the questions about estates and end of life treatment options may be answered by the individual themselves rather than the courts.

Last Will & Testament – Generally referred to simply as a ‘will’ and states who shall take possession of real and personal property after their death.

Living Will РLets a patient select their end of life treatment decisions in regards to accepting or rejeting artificial breathing tubes, feeding, and any other means when there is no legitimate cure. Typical for the elderly who would not like to subject themselves to long sustained periods where there are connected to life-supporting machines while unconscious.

  • Also referred to as an ‘Advance Directive’ when combined with a medical power of attorney which allows for a surrogate to make decisions for the patient based on the best case scenario plus what they have written as their living will.
